Welcome to the new HWTC

May 2, 2022

By now you’ve probably noticed that HWTC has a new look. It’s one that’s more reflective and inclusive of our expanded areas of focus.

HWTC has been known for nearly 20 years as a trusted provider of top-notch training solutions for Ontario’s hospitality industry, but we’re so much more than that. Did you know that we also provide capacity-building support for employers?  Or that we create and release timely research and labour market data?

As we enter a new phase in HWTC’s development, we are just as committed to sharing our learnings and helping employers attract and retain top talent as we are to ensuring that those we train have the skills they need to succeed in hospitality.

Our mission is to support and sustain a healthy, vibrant hospitality industry. Among the tools that we’ve recently introduced in pursuit of that goal is ReSET – the Retention Skills Enhancement Tool. ReSET helps employers cut costs by establishing soft skills performance expectations upfront and identifying areas for intervention early. It also helps workers better understand their employer’s expectations for soft skills success.

To support both job seekers and employers, HWTC has also launched a new micro-credential program. Micro-credentials are a fast and easy way to certify skills that may have been attained outside a traditional educational setting. They are also stackable, meaning they can be combined with other micro-credentials to show overall proficiency in a particular area.

With these micro-credentials job seekers can quickly set themselves apart from the competition. Employers can easily spot the talent they need in a stack of resumes, and they can be certain those applicants have the skills required because the assessment process has been validated by Bow Valley College.

Supporting both of these initiatives is the introduction of a supervisory training track to support the advancement of frontline staff to managerial roles – an area that hospitality employers have identified as vital to their continued growth.

This is just the beginning of HWTC’s transformation to a centre of excellence for hospitality. Stay tuned for more exciting details in the months and years ahead.
